San Mamete

For ages seat of the municipality, San Mamete is curled up around the nice Piazza Roma and on the other side of Regina road, where open the old arcades near the wharf. You can visit the oldest church in Valsolda walking up on the paved road  departing from the square and leading to the graveyard. Dedicated to holy saints Mamete and Agapito, it dates back to the 15th  century and has a tall bell-tower from 12th century; the inside is decorated with many precious frescoes from the 17th  century.

San Mamete was also the home of the italian writer Brunella Gasperini (1918-79), who described the village in her novels and is now resting in the small graveyard.
